William Kerr (bishop)
William Shaw Kerr was an Irish Anglican bishop, the first Bishop of Down and Dromore in the Church of Ireland.〔“A New History of Ireland”Moody,T.W; Martin,F.X; Byrne,F.J;Cosgrove,A: Oxford, OUP, 1976 ISBN 0-19-821745-5〕
Kerr was born in 1873 and educated at Trinity College, Dublin“Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 and ordained in 1897, his first post was a curacy at Lurgan.〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 He was then Rector of Banbridge, Archdeacon of Dromore and finally (before his ordination to the episcopate) Dean of Belfast. He was elected Bishop of Down and Dromore on 9 December 1944 and consecrated on 25 January 1945.
